classic Matt Baker sea monster horror cvr; Kinstler art1954's Amazing Ghost Stories #14 remains one of the top horror collectibles of the 1950s. Even though Matt Baker was best known for his work on romance comics, St. John Publishing wisely brought in the pioneering African-American artist to create a uniquely disturbing cover. (The grisly image of a couple fighting off marauding swamp creatures was most likely inspired by just the title of the killer-mermaid saga "The Devil of the Deep").
With less than 55 copies of this rare book on the CGC Census, horror fans are constantly looking for chances to own this classic title .Nobody even cares that there aren't ghosts in the actual stories. In truth, the interior pages are just reprinting 1952's Nightmare #2. That still adds the allure of Everett Kinstler's awesome art for an adaptation of "The Pit and the Pendulum."
