Origin & 1st app of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Splinter, & Shredder; Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird cover/art; Wraparound cover

Anybody who grew up in the 1980s understands the significance of this comic book to collectors and investors. This rare example of a Copper Age Classic is also the Action #1, the Showcase #4, and Amazing Fantasy #15 of the '80s. Self-published by scrappy creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, this book contains the origin stories of the Ninja Turtles and the Splinter, plus the introduction of Shredder and the Foot.

The moody cover (an homage to Frank Miller's Ronin mini-series) features deep blacks and bloody reds as our heroes stand ready against the forces of evil. Of course, this all before the Playmates toy company licensed the cultish comic. Eastman and Laird's characters were soon to be toned down and made more child-friendly. In these early books, however, they pulled no punches on the way to becoming top pop-culture icons. The time is nigh to grab your own copy before the price soars once again.

Comic book fans of any era should instantly recognize the collectability and value of this influential piece of pop culture, especially a copy in such incredible condition. One of the most popular keys we offer, and the one truly world-recognized 1980s comic, we expect bidders to shout "COWABUNGA!" and plunge headlong into battle over this guaranteed collectible centerpiece.

Overstreet 2013 states "In 2012 a 9.8 sold for $17,925, a 9.4 sold for $5,377 and a 9.2 sold for $2,868."
