From the Whitman WarehouseFrans Van Lamsweerde (1924-1969) was an illustrator of greeting cards, comics, and children s books. Hailing all the way from the Netherlands and then migrating to the USA in the 1950s, he worked with such notable companies as Walt Disney Studios, Western Printing, and Golden Books & Whitman Publishing. His sharp skills were used in creating beautiful works of mid century modern merchandise. This gorgeous piece, which eventually became a puzzle, has a jolly and masterfully designed Santa Clause calling his reindeer to action by horn. The simplistic design and composition make Mr. Cringle the focal point, while the strokes and shapes indicative of modern designs are expertly accomplished. Any collector of mid century art or Christmas themes are sure to find a certain familiarity and happiness from this piece.
