VD giveaway; Harvey Kurtzman's first work at EC; very rare
Highest GradedHarvey Kurtzmann's work is so synonymous with EC comics that it's easy to forget he had to make a start with them somewhere. Oddly enough, it was in the pages of this true rarity, a 1949 health awareness giveaway that hid its stern warnings against, um, social disease (we're trying to be polite about this here) in the guise of a truly whacked-out western/romance/horror show that must be seen to be believed. Featuring Kurtzmann's typically over-the-top style, this is quite possibly the single rarest EC comic known to exist.EC fans will note that this is the single highest graded copy, making it even more of a must-have. ECs have been surging in popularity in recent months, especially in high grades -- bid early and aggressively, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
For VD comic book collectors, we're also offering a copy of Doc Carter VD Comics CGC 7.5 in this auction.
Overstreet 2013 VF/NM (9.0) value = $1,413.
