DESCRIPTION
Charles Schultz colored marker and signed; circa late 1960s; matted on heavy board 11" x 14"

The story behind this Snoopy flying dog house litho by Maj. John A. Schaffer, USAF ret., as copied from the plate on the back of the frame:

"I was in the United States Air Force and from 1965 thru 1968 assigned to 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, flying in the F-101 (Voodoo). An additional duty I had in the squadron was being their Public Information Officer which is equivalent to a Public Relations Job in civilian life. Being a faithful reader of the funnies and an aviator I was intrigued by Charles Schulz's depiction of Snoopy on the dog house fighting the Red Baron. Sometime in 1966 or 1967 I wrote a letter to Charles Schulz, describing our squadron and its mission. I asked him if he would send a picture that I could hang in our operations building of Snoopy flying his dog house. This is the picture on the other side (of this frame). The reason I now have it is because our squadron was disbanded in 1968. The Squadron Commander at that time said that since I was the one who obtained the picture, I could have it."

Some fading is evident, but the picture is otherwise in fine condition. Schulz has remarked at the bottom of the picture, "For all our friends in the 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadon, Best Wishes, Charles M. Schulz"
