Green Ghost app.; WWII coverBefore teaming up with Stan Lee to create Marvel's stable of superheroes in the 1960s, Jack Kirby was a journeyman artist, freelancing for almost every publishing house under the sun. Here we see one of his offerings which he rendered for Harvey Comics, an imprint known nowadays mostly for children's fare, but during the halcyon days of the 1940s everyone wanted to get in on the patriotic fervor sweeping the nation, and Harvey was no exception. This thrilling "yellow menace" cover bears all of the hallmarks of a Golden Age anthology book, the heroes leaping into action, the bad guys plotting world domination, and the demonic creatures that serve the evildoers. A pretty interesting and underrated piece of comic history and a perfect book for the Golden Age, WWII, or Kirby collector to sink their teeth into.
