Shock SuspenStories #6 is both a beloved EC horror collectible and a historical artifact perfectly capturing the adult themes that made Williams Gaines the target of a 1954 Congressional subcommittee. Wally Wood's striking cover sets up his work on the issue's grim "Under Cover" story about the evils of the KKK (or, for the purposes of this story, the Black Vigilante Society). That kind of vital subject matter has endured as vindication for both Gaines and EC Comics in general, proving that the EC line — soon to be censored by the Comics Code Authority — was motivated by more than mere sensationalism.

The book's contents offer three additional EC classics, as well. The fun irony of the murderous "Dead Right!" was beloved enough to be one of the first EC stories adapted for the HBO series Tales from the Crypt. "Not So Tough" is a grisly sci-fi classic, while "Sugar 'N Spice 'N..." remains one of the true fan-favorite stories, featuring incredible art from the legendary Graham Ingels.
