classic Batman cover; 1st app. Hugo StrangeDetective Comics #36 marks the first appearance of Hugo Strange -- Batman's first arch-enemy, and modern collectors will know him as the primary antagonist of the critically acclaimed video game Batman: Arkham City. Rarely are copies of this pre-Robin Detective issue made available for sale. The instantly recognizable cover of this issue is one of the more memorable of the Golden Age Detectives, and the action within the book is equally enthralling, centering around Strange's use of a fog machine to cover up his underlings' crimes, Batman eventually thwarts the ne'er-do-well and locks him up, but Strange vows to reap his revenge.There are exactly 80 copies of this book registered with CGC as of this writing, making this another truly rare and extremely desirable comic. Sitting at about the center of the pack this FN example of Detective #36 is in admirable condition boasting a bright color scheme that presents equally palpable oranges, reds, yellows, and some varied shades of blue. The classic image of Batman swinging into action against some stereotypical “yellow peril” baddies, a favorite trope of early Detectives. Just one of a group of classic early appearances of the Dark Knight, these pre-Robin issues are some of the most difficult to find books out there and are always big-ticket items at auction.

A celebrity comic artist of the Golden Age, co-created Batman and Robin with Bill Finger, as his brainchild became more in demand he hired an army of ghost artists to illustrate the dearth of Batman features on the market, but all were credited to Kane. His other achievements include the creation of Catwoman, Two-Face and cartoon character Courageous Cat. Kane was the object of some controversy for taking credit for the art and inspiration of others, but he was also undoubtedly an important figure in the history of comics. He published an updated version of his autobiography "Batman and Me: The Saga Continues" shortly before his death in 1998. He got his start at the Eisner/Iger studio and was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
Sherrill David Robinson known as Jerry Robinson, was an American comic book artist known for his work on DC Comics' Batman line of comics during the 1940s. He is best known as the co-creator of Robin and the Joker and for his work on behalf of creators' rights. He was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2004.
