Al Williamson was a blue-collar lunch-bucket comic artist, who worked from the Golden Age into the new millennium and originally made his mark in sci-fi and fantasy titles for controversial publisher EC. As is evident on this moody, space opera page, his style was defined at a young age, and only became more assured throughout his career. EC pages are rare, and whenever they show up to the marketplace serious collectors take notice.

Weird Science was published for four years in the 50s, along with companion title Weird Fantasy. These forays into new genres helped broaden the appeal of EC, who were primarily known for their horror comics, and later, for Mad Magazine. The book featured a veritable "Who's Who" of post-war comic legends, Bill Gaines, Al Feldstein, Frank Frazetta, Harvey Kurtzman, Wally Wood, and many other big names joined Williamson to make the title one of the cult favorites of the period.
