Unknown Artist; image size 10.5" x 15.75"When hero comics took a nose dive in the post WWII era, genre comics stepped in to fill the void, romance, western and war books were all incredibly popular, but horror comics were in a class all their own, the shocking subject matter and memorable cover designs have made horror books a lasting focus of a loyal and intense collecting community. Although the name of the artist who rendered the cover for Baffling Mysteries #23 is unknown, what is quite obvious is the incredible talent this person wielded, the creepy, face-swapping hag scenario was bound to entice curious readers to want to see what other terrors resided inside this book's pages. Unlike today, comic artists worked in relative obscurity in the Golden Age, and some of their amazing contributions have survived the years to become desirable collectibles for a devoted fan base.
