He is a changed man after the trials and tribulations he has recently undergone, especially concerning the near-death experience his son, Carl, had just encountered. He is grinning slightly and raising his hand emphatically, and the angle of the perspective, from below his face, makes viewers see him as a hero or even a messiah. A nice portrait of the central character of the series in a somewhat optimistic mood.
