1st Dr. Occult in costume (Superman prototype)
Jon Berk CollectionBefore More Fun Comics became the launching pad for a variety of DC’s biggest heroes of the Golden Age the book was a repository for all forms of anthology fodder, from kiddie one-shots to classic novel adaptations, nearly anything could be found within the pages of this important milestone of the industry. There are a couple of reasons this issue, in particular, has caught the attention of savvy collectors, those being the first appearance of Dr. Occult, a character that was considered a precursor to Superman, and the inclusion of Seigel and Shuster’s “Calling All Cars” feature, wrapping the Man of Steel’s inspiration and his creators up in one neat package. Certainly of interest to Golden Age bidders, this is a hard-to-find issue with great historical import.
Artist Information
