1st app. of Hourman by Bernard Baily + Bob Kane art (3/40)
With the aid of a powerful chemical compound, named Miraclo, chemist Rex Tyler assumes the the mantle of the Hour-Man, bestowed with super-strength, heightened senses and the ability to move faster than the speed of light, but there is one catch, these incredible abilities wear off after only sixty minutes, hence, the moniker Hour-Man. The character enjoyed a period of popularity in the Golden Age that earned him membership in the Justice Society of America as well as the All Star Squadron. The physical stress of using Miraclo eventually caused Tyler to retire from crime-fighting, as the scientist turned back to his laboratory and continued to work for the good of mankind in a humbler capacity. The four-color chromatics on this cover are a pleasure to behold, a breathtaking introduction to the Hour-Man is presented here in all of its Golden Age glory.

The bare-bones but dramatically powerful Bernard Baily cover illustration on this FN copy immediately draws the eye, as it must have done on newsstands back in the early days of the comics, where scrappy publishers had to use every trick in the book to get a leg up on their competition, and DC had the formula for success. This first appearance of Hour-Man would make a wonderful addition to any comic collection, and let's not forget the cameo by Sandman, making this book doubly desirable for GA hounds and DC fans alike.
