Japanese WWII bondage cover by Biro; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 6 (CBI)
What doesn't this Golden Age comic have? There’s a boy superhero and his simian sidekick, plus a bunch of costumed kids tied up and about to be run over by a tank as demonic Japanese soldiers close in on them, and even a dogfight (and monkey contest?) thrown in for good measure! This epic wartime cover is an action-packed example of Charles Biro's brilliant illustrations that could only be rivalled by Alex Schomburg.
Boy Comics followed the adventures of one Chuck Chandler, aka Crimebuster, as he and his band of juvenile heroes battle the evil Iron Jaw. (The continuing pursuit was also personal, since the Nazi villain had single-handedly orphaned the protagonist.) Biro’s Daredevil would become one of the most recognizable heroes of the 1940s, and his contributions to the comic book form continue to make him a popular figure with both fans and investors.
