classic Jack Burnley molten metal cover; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 6 (CBI)
Action Comics #108 is an enduringly impressive example of how a comic's cover is enough to create a classic collectible. Superman had swooped down to save innocent citizens plenty of times over the years, but Jack Burnley's dazzling depiction uses dark tones to bring out the true threat of molten metal showering upon helpless steel workers. This cover is also particularly valued in the high grades that preserve the deep browns and blacks providing a vivid contrast to Superman blocking the brightly glowing threat. Collectors have long recognized the careful craftsmanship that's kept Action #108 constantly ranked as one of the holiest grails of the Golden Age.
