Syd Shores is one of the many Golden Age comic book artists that followed the lead of Alex Schomburg and helped mold the look of wartime comics, with chaotic and violent scenes that generally featured high-powered superheroes taking on the enemies of the USA. On this cover, the Human Torch flies into the frame after disposing of a Nazi tank and cannon by melting them down to slag. It was covers like this one that helped raise morale for troops overseas and patriotic Americans back home.
