This collection of pages 4-9 from Tales of Suspense #42 represents half of the tale Trapped by the Red Barbarian, the fourth-ever appearance of Iron Man, drawn to classic perfection by the influential and underrated Don Heck. Check out the awesome transformation panels on page four, which shows Stark s famous attaché case containing the iconic suit for the first time. Page five s first panel bring the tragic events of 9/11 to mind, and may also feature the first assault with a ham in the history of comics. The Actor meets the Red Barbarian in pages 6 & 7, where the mimic shows the Cold War villain his ability to impersonate Tony Stark, a disguise he employs to infiltrate Stark Industries and uncover some of the secrets of Iron Man, particularly, his secret identity. On page 9 the Actor flies off in Stark s jet as he leaves his underlings behind to ambush the real Tony Stark.
A collection of continuous pages from a classic early Silver Age Marvel book is not an item that shows up on the market often, and these remarkable Don Heck panels are an important piece of Iron Man s history, and comic book history overall, and we expect to see a lot of attention focused on this impressive example of original comic art from the halcyon years of the House of Ideas.
