Henry Bismuth pencils, Walt Simonson inks!; inside front cover; 1986; image size 10.5" x 15"Great image of Conan choking out an unlucky adversary, with beautiful stylish inking from Simonson. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Bismuth and Simonson, dated 8.2.86 by Simonson.
While Bismuth's career in comics was brief he displayed a natural talent in the few stories he illustrated. After leaving comics Bismuth went on to a successful career in fine art that continues to this day. One of the things he did do, was to befriend Walt Simonson and the two collaborated on this piece. The pairing works quite well and inking on this drawing is classic Simonson, with it's hard lines and crisp angles. I don't know that Conan ever looked quite so viscous.
Artists Information
Walt Simonson is a hugely influential writer/artist who rose to prominence at DC in the 1970's on various War titles and The Metal Men, it was his work on the Detective Comics back-up feature Manhunter with Archie Goodwin that made readers take notice. He would go on to Marvel where he would draw the X-Men/New Teen Titans crossover and have a groundbreaking run on Thor that is considered one of the finest in the long history of the title. He would go on to work on X-Factor, Fantastic Four, and a host of other titles. His own creation, The Star Slammers is a series he has returned to periodically throughout his career, most recently with IDW.
