Highest GradedThe cover of Sub-Mariner Comics #23 boasts a classic Syd Shores illustration that shows Namor leaping out of the water to save a damsel-in-distress from a reptilian humanoid, a classic Golden Age image from the post-war period. Many superhero plotlines after WWII involved a variety of colorful criminals plotting major-league heists, which would require intervention from the stars of the era. This issue features two Subby tales of criminal intrigue, one involving the gold-crazed Hammerhead Shark, and the other, the silver-crazed, Spectacles. The Human Torch story in the book, sadly, has nothing to do with bronze but does stay true to the reptile motif presented on the cover.
This is the highest-graded one-of-one copy recorded on the census, certified with the QES stamp of quality, this exemplary book is admirable in every way. Blazing reds contrast with deep blues and greens to present one heck of a fantastic color palette. The corners are razor keen, and the spine is near perfection, this 9.4 copy is sure to be a hotly contested lot come auction time.
