In Superman, DC stumbled upon the most iconic, all-American hero of all time, albeit, in the form of an alien from a distant planet. Superman stood for everything pure, honest, and true about the U.S.A., from his idyllic upbringing on a farm in Smallville to his everyman alter ego Clark Kent, Superman simply oozed Americana. Even the colors of his suit matched up neatly with the stars and bars, it's no wonder Marvel attempted to emulate these facets of the Man of Steel with their own patriotic superhero, Captain America.
