This game bridges the gap between the first wave games like Donkey Kong, or Pac-Man, and the second-generation titles like Super Mario Bros. When this game was first released in arcades during the video game crash of 1983, it met to mixed enthusiasm, but once the cart made it into home console use, it went on to be a staple in the diet of gamers everywhere. The game is also lauded for the introduction of Mario’s brother, Luigi, and also for changing Mario’s career trajectory from carpenter to plumber, and the rest is history. This game is a favorite of collectors due to its prominent place in the timeline of the story of video games, and the titular heroes, who are two of the most recognizable icons of the video game industry.
