Adventure Comics #210 shows Superman still hosting key comic moments with the first appearance of Krypto the Superdog. Otto Binder and Curt Swan dreamt up a pet for the teenage Kal-El while likely considering the mid-50’s craze for hit TV shows like Lassie and The Adventures of Rin-Tin-Tin. Krypto, however, would outlive those pop-culture fads and remain a DC fan favorite over the decades.
This issue has the space-bound pup (having been the subject of an experiment by Superman’s father, Jor-El) arriving on Earth after his ship is fortunately knocked off-course. The original reunion is sort of bittersweet, with Krypto’s sudden appearance putting Superboy’s secret identity at risk. Luckily, interest in the new animal hero soon had the writers coming up with plentiful new stories as Krypto became a featured regular in the Superman/Superboy mythos. There's now set to be a whole new level of Kryptomania, of course, with Superman's dog finally getting a live-action turn with a major role in 2025's hotly-anticipated big-screen Superman.

With the scarcity of DC Silver Age books in good condition, this 7.5 copy of Adventure Comics #210 has only three examples above it on the census. With a "DC Super Pets" animated film slated for a 2022 release, the upside potential of this comic is growing. This handsome, clean, and solid copy should be one to look out for at auction, consider it a sleeper, for now.
