Detective Comics #66 showed that the Batman mythos was still being born with the first appearance of Two-Face — along with the introduction of Gotham City D.A. Harvey Dent. At this point, writer Bill Finger and artist Jerry Robinson were still full of inspiration while collaborating with Batman creator Bob Kane. Dent's tragic transformation into a criminal mastermind provided a meaningful parallel to Bruce Wayne's own journey, and the origin has gone pretty much untouched over the decades. Harvey Dent is a rising star when he uses "Boss" Moroni's beloved two-headed coin to tie the monster to a murder, with Moroni getting revenge by tossing a bottle of sulfuric acid at the prosecutor.

Batman can only prevent the acid from disfiguring half of Dent's face, leading to fits of schizophrenia as Two-Face terrorizes Gotham City. The epic "Crimes of Two-Face" goes on to feature Batman's first attempt to bring Two-Face to justice while seeking redemption for Dent. The bizarre climax set up Two-Face's tormented future. (In a forgotten extra tragedy, the only plastic surgeon who could have possible helped Dent recover had recently been kidnapped by Nazis while visiting Germany.) Two-Face may have been too disturbing a villain to ever make it onto the '60s Batman TV series, but Harvey Dent's dangerous alter-ego has remained a vital part of DC's boldest storytelling over the Comic Ages, with fans eager awaiting the return of a big-screen Two-Face in the DC Extended Universe.
_______________________________________________

The overall presentation of this book is impressive, the centering, color strike, and solid construction make this a stellar example at grade. The whites are super clean for a book of this vintage, and there is no denying, with the additional attraction of the first appearance of Two-Face, that this comic is certain to draw attention. With only a handful of copies higher up the census, we expect some pretty intense bidding over this classic.
