ow/w pgs, very small amount of dried glue on spine of cvr
origin & 1st app. of Plastic Man, 1st app. Phantom Lady, Firebrand, and Human Bomb
DC Premiere Collection
Plastic Man was originally a property of Quality Comics, which was bought out by DC in the 50s, bringing the character into the new publisher’s universe through the current day. More of an underground success than a big name throughout his career, Plastic Man was nonetheless a very original and groundbreaking hero for his time. Employing humor into his adventures, Plas laid the groundwork for other wisecracking heroes like Deadpool to quip and jape in their features. The origin story herein tells the tale of one Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, whose life of crime is cut short by a betrayal and a bullet, after being doused with a mysterious chemical, he awakens in a monastery with newfound powers, the ability to stretch and mold himself into veritably any shape he chooses, and lo, the first stretchy superhero is born, influencing a variety of other similarly supple copycats. The additional first appearance of the cult sensation Phantom Lady in this historic issue only adds to the overall magnetism of this sleeper hit of the Golden Age.

This copy presents as higher than grade, the colors are just fantastic, the requisite blues and reds are complimented by an unusual palette of pinks, plums, and a greyish-green background that give this comic a little extra pizzazz. The inclusion of a Who’s Who of Golden Age art greats makes this book a particularly popular target for collectors of the era, and with only a small sample size on the census, you can rest assured there will be a battle over ownership rights on this comic come auction time.

Overstreet Guide 2019 FN- (5.5) value = $2,750.
