While the cover villain is the somewhat comical Pied Piper, the book also contains the first appearance of Gorilla Grodd, which would inaugurate a three-issue story arc featuring the intelligent ape from the hidden Gorilla City. Grodd would go on to become a popular character throughout the storied history of the publisher, maintaining a fan base into the Modern Day.
