Captain America by Simon & Kirby; Sub-Mariner by Everett; Human Torch by Burgos (Summer 41)All Winners Comics #1 was Timely's answer to DC's World's Finest. For the first time in the history of the "Marvel Universe," all of the company's flagship characters, Sub-Mariner, Captain America, and Human Torch appeared together on the front cover. Released shortly after Captain America Comics #1, this issue features a very early appearance of the Star Spangled Avenger, and would serve as a precursor to later Marvel teams such as the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four.
According to the Marvel Database, the cover of All Winners #1 was drawn by Alex Schomburg, and if that is indeed the case, it is a testament to his rapid growth as an artist, as the crude yet enticing cover image on this book certainly echoes the speedy rate at which contemporaries such as Jack Kirby learned the ropes of this burgeoning medium. This high-grade copy of an incredibly rare Golden Age key is one of the standouts of this amazing Event Auction. There are just over 100 copies on the census, and this example is one of the best known in the hobby. The colors on this book retain their power all these years later, and the overall construction has stood the test of time to remain solid and attractive as all get out. With Namor and Human Torch, both earmarked for inclusion in the MCU, this comic has plenty of upside investment potential.
