Boring Superman coverOn the cover of this classic a young fan asks Superman "What were you like when you were a boy?" One can imagine the writers at DC asking themselves that very same question, and, lo and behold, a new title, character, and concept were born. Starting a trend of exploring the youthful days of several of their big-name heroes which would culminate with the original Teen Titans, this book was the spark that lit the fire which would find DC mining a younger, more-innocent demographic that could be weaned on tamer tales of adventure and slowly evolve into full-fledged adult comic book fans. There are not a whole lot of copies of this DC key around, with just over 200 recorded on the census this is one of the nicest, highest graded examples around. There are lots of amazing selections in this event auction, and this QES-certified Superboy #1 is yet another comic that is bound to see stiff competition. The blinding yellow background wash is as clean and smooth as can be, while the color strike on Kal-El and his youthful admirers is as crisp as anyone could ask for. Remaining in a remarkable state for the past 73 years this copy is a definite head-turner. If you’ve been looking for an impressive example of this comic to add to your portfolio, look no further.
