John Romita Sr. pencils/Jim Mooney inks; page 15; 1968; image size 10.5" x 16"
reprinted in Amazing Spider-Man #116Here's a beautiful John Romita Spider-Man page from his prime period. This page has an interesting journey, it was originally drawn for the premiere issue of the Spectacular Spider-Man magazine in 1968 where it was printed in black and white with grey tones added, this led to some really wonderful compositions from Romita as he didn't have to leave space for color. It was reprinted in 1973 in Amazing Spider-Man #116 where it was printed in color, for the reprinted edition the art was extended about 1" at the bottom to fit the different format and the story was reworked requiring some replaced and added word balloons. A really extraordinary example of peak Romita Spidey! Pen and ink. Art is in very good condition, there is some minor staining and a couple of the added word balloon paste-ups are missing. Signed by Romita.

Amazing Spider-Man following the departure of Steve Ditko with issue #38. Romita's long run on
Spider-Man would include the introduction of classic characters such as Mary Jane Watson, the Kingpin and many others. He would be a major contributor to the entire Marvel line throughout the 1970s — including designing the look of The Punisher. Romita's influence has since been felt for decades, including the emergence of John Romita, Jr. as one of the industry's top illustrators.
James Noel Mooney was an American comics artist best known for his long tenure at DC Comics and as the signature artist of Supergirl, as well as a Marvel Comics inker and Spider-Man artist, both during what comics historians and fans call the Silver Age of comic books.
