Well, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Hangman #3 probably has the most decapitations out of any comic ever published by MLJ, primarily known for their output of Archie Comics, MLJ got in on the wartime patriotism fad sweeping through the comic industry. It says it right there in the headline “Nazis and Japs, you rats! Beware! The Hangman is everywhere!” and they mean it. In this issue Hangman battles the Executioner and Captain Swastika, who end up killing one another after a bloody murderous rampage that lasts a good third of this issue. Fans of Golden Age grindhouse kicks are sure to delight in this crazy comic. The follow up stories are also pretty good action yarns featuring the first ever sidekick team-up in comics history, the Boy Buddies, Dusty and Roy, the Shield and the Wizard’s teen compatriots respectively. This book is a whole lot of pre-code fun, just the type of thing Golden Age readers love, all wrapped in a nifty action-packed Harry Lucey cover.
