VenomEddie Brock was a reporter whose career collapsed when Spider-Man brought in the real perpetrator of a crime Eddie had claimed to have solved. Finding Spider-Man's alien black costume, Brock merged with it and became the maniacal Venom, the web-slinger's opposite number. Venom has all of the same spider-like powers as Spidey, and uses those powers in an attempt to destroy the man whom he believes ruined his life--Spider-Man!
