Bob Kane/Jerry Robinson cvr/art; origin & 1st app. Robin (Dick Grayson); Comic Book Impact rating of 9 (CBI)
Detective Comics #38 i— changing the course of comics with the first appearance of Robin, the Boy Wonder! Created in 1940 by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson, Robin made his debut with a tragic backstory that made him the perfect companion for the similarly orphaned Bruce Wayne.

The idea of a kid sidekick was still a major gamble against the gritty backdrop of Gotham City. Fortunately, Robin was embraced by younger readers. The character soon doubled the sales of comics in the Batman franchise, inspiring a wave of young sidekicks from beloved stars (Bucky Barnes, Toro) to forgotten figures (Stampy, Owl-Girl).

Detective was ultimately proven right to hype Robin as the “sensational character find of 1940” on the cover. Of course, many teens would later take on Robin's trademark yellow cape, red suit, green boots, and gloves. Investors still know there's only one original Boy Wonder, and only one definitive debut as Robin bursts onto the cover and into legend!

"The Sensational Character-Find of 1940... Robin - The Boy Wonder" first appears here, in Detective Comics #38 from April 1940. Inspiring countless superhero sidekicks, Dick Grayson was the one who started it all. This copy carries a 6.5 Restored Grade from CGC. It has cream to off-white pages and earned a Moderate (A-3) grade for its restoration. The restoration includes color touch, pieces added, tear seals, spine split sealed, and reinforcement. This truly is a gorgeous book, with the classic Kane and Robinson cover looking stunning. Only 26 higher-graded CGC copies of this book exist, making this an extremely desirable and rare book.

Overstreet Guide 2021 FN+ (6.5) value = $56,000.
