The character has proven to have a cult fan base and has lasted the test of time to become a DC mainstay since his inception in this first appearance, published in 1952. In his debut, Phantom Stranger is primarily a mysterious sleuth, with the power to appear and disappear without a trace, who does battle with some delusional and dangerous villains.
