Premiere issue of The Spider! Released October 1933, this issue introduced The Spider to the world in "The Spider Strikes" by R.T.M. Scott. The Spider would go on to influence later superheroes like Batman and Daredevil. The Spider was an unusual hero pulp because it combined heroic adventures with weird menaces and apocalyptic sci-fi. Many of the covers are bright, bloodthirsty, and brilliant, making them essential additions to any pulp collection. Between being slightly more obscure than other pulp heroes like The Shadow and Doc Savage and having scandalously strange and sexy covers, The Spider has become one of the sought-after pulp titles in recent years.
This first issue features a painted cover by Walter Baumhofer, with a group of criminals caught in a spider's web. It is a truly striking cover, and quintessentially pulp.
