Premiere issue of The Spider! Released October 1933, this issue introduced The Spider to the world in "The Spider Strikes" by R.T.M. Scott. The Spider would go on to influence later superheroes like Batman and Daredevil. The Spider was an unusual hero pulp because it combined heroic adventures with weird menaces and apocalyptic sci-fi. Many of the covers are bright, bloodthirsty, and brilliant, making them essential additions to any pulp collection.
This first issue features a painted cover by Walter Baumhofer, with a group of criminals caught in a spider's web. It is a truly striking cover, and quintessentially pulp.
