October 1936. Classic female torture cover; pulp impact rating of 7 (PI)
A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTIONThis October 1936 issue of Thrilling Mystery features terrifying stories including "Vampires Have No Shadows" by Frederick C. Painton, "Hands Out of Hell" by John H. Knox, "Blood for Kali" by G.T. Fleming-Roberts, and "The Horror of Cutoff Cove" by Frank Belknap Long, Jr.
This is a classically gruesome pulp cover, featuring a strange scene of torture. This issue features a man and woman bound in chains. The man's chest shows scars from his many lashes, and a villainous dominant woman looks on with a whip in her hand. Meanwhile, the bound blonde's hand is about to be cut off, and her beautiful yellow dress is about to fall off. Blood flows down the block her arm rests on, suggesting previous tortures held in this dungeon. A spiked ball looms in the bottom right corner, also hinting at further torture. This is a very fine pulp. Very Fine is an extremely unusual grade for pulps to get. The cover appears beautifully, with sharp reds and yellows in both the cover copy and image. There is very slight stress at the corners and along the edge and overhang, and a very minor crease in the top-right corner. This is a strikingly well-preserved pulp.
