rare; classic good girl art by BakerMuch has been made about the brilliant draftsmanship of Matt Baker, who is best known for his work on Phantom Lady, as well as the talented illustrator’s breaking into a predominantly white industry as a black man in 1950’s America. But it can sometimes be overlooked that Baker was also one of the preeminent purveyors of Good Girl Art, and issue #19 of Phantom Lady does not skimp on the busty, leggy ladies, if this is your cup of tea, this issue is a teapot filled to the brim. Our protagonist is shown displaying her attributes on nearly every page, as well as occasionally being tied up with rope. So, if you like saucy, action-packed hero comics that feature top-notch art and writing, look no further. Phantom Lady issues have been selling for staggering amounts and are continuing to trend upwards.
There are only two copies of this classic issue graded higher up the charts, and with just over forty copies in toto, this is one of the finest examples of this book known to the hobby. The hues on this cover are exceedingly bright and fresh in appearance. The comic has remained in an excellent state of preservation, with only the most minor of condition concerns around the perimeter of the cover. This title has broken records and stunned collectors with closing prices at auction, once an obscure book with few followers, Phantom Lady has risen to prominence of late and assumed a place of great respect among the investment auction crowd.
