Flash Comics #86 became an instant collectible with the first appearance of Black Canary — as originally created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino as a fun femme fatale to bedevil the lovably dim Johnny Thunder. The creative team were pretty happy to see Black Canary eventually replace Johnny Thunder in the Justice Society of America. (The saucy criminal had been revealed to secretly be a crimefighter as she became Johnny's frequent partner.) Over 70 years later, Black Canary remains one of the most enduring heroines of the DC Universe. Also of note to collectors: that wild Lee Elias dinosaur cover! Dinosaurs are awesome.
