This is the March 1939 issue of Street & Smith's Unknown, one of the most important science-fiction pulps. This pulp works as a great companion to classic titles like Amazing Stories and Weird Tales. Whereas those largely featured wonderous science fiction and fantastical horror, Unknown featured science-fiction horror. It would go on to feature stories by great writers like Fritz Leiber, Robert Heinlein, Eric Frank Russel, Jack Williamson, Theodore Sturgeon, L. Sprague de Camp, L. Ron Hubbard, and even Raymond Chandler. This issue features a demonic figure menacingly holding the Earth as a city burns below him.
