The first appearances of the original X-Men—including Professor X, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Iceman, and Marvel Girl, as well as evil mutant Magneto—are all featured in this classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic. A new crew of mutants would revive the title in the ’70s, but this vital debut introduces most of the core characters that would launch the big-screen superhero trend of the 21st century.
In addition to that hit film franchise, these teen outcasts would star in a staggering number of comic spin-offs, plus a variety of live-action TV shows and cartoons. There’s even more interest in the title today as Marvel Studios takes over the beloved characters once owned by Fox, strongly suggesting the investment value of this perpetually hot issue will only continue to grow.
This copy of the all-time classic X-Men #1 earned an impressive 9.0 from CGC, with off-white to white pages. This Signature Series book was signed by Stan Lee on July 23rd, 2011, nearly 50 years after he penned the issue. Along with the yellow Signature Series CGC label, this is a special X-Men edition, with the classic X-logo behind the grade, and an image from the iconic Giant-Size X-Men cover on the top right of the holder. This is a beautiful copy, with a sharp red logo on an equally crisp white background. The image of the original five mutants uniting as they rush toward Magneto is stunning and uninterrupted by any flaws. Stan Lee's signature rides along Cyclops' red eye beam, adding a great X-factor to this high-grade classic. A 9.0 X-Men #1 recently sold for $185,000. This is a major key issue, and constantly climbing in value. This will be the envy of collectors and investors everywhere.
