classic cover; origin & 1st app. of Solomon Grundy (feat. in TV's Stargirl) Comic Book Impact rating of 7 (CBI)
One of the most chilling covers of the Golden Age, and one of the most haunting of all villain origin stories. The emergence of Solomon Grundy perfectly captures the dark, macabre twilight feel of some of DC's Golden Age comics. The stories reflected the nervous, emotionally charged atmosphere of wartime America. Grundy is the reanimated corpse of a murder victim who turns to an after-life of crime. His spree leads him on a collision course with the Green Lantern. Eventually beating the brute without his superpowers, Alan Scott throws him in front of a moving train. But, you cannot kill that which is already dead, so Grundy shambled on into comic book lore, gaining a loyal fan base along the way.

All-American Comics #61 introduced fan-favorite DC villain Solomon Grundy. The character started life as a nemesis to the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, but over time went on to face off against many of DC's greatest heroes including Superman, Batman, and The Flash, as well as appearing in multiple modern-day TV shows including Arrow, Gotham, and most recently Stargirl. This copy of Grundy's first appearance earned an FN+ 6.5 CGC Universal Grade and has off-white to white pages. The spooky Paul Reinman cover looks incredible here, with rich colors, a black border, and a dark background that look remarkably sharp on this nearly 80-year-old book. As Grundy beckons to Alan Scott, readers can imagine him climbing out of the ground and right into their laps! Golden Age keys like this are always in high demand. With only 72 copies recorded on the CGC Census, and ties to many facets of DC's pantheon, All-American Comics #61 is a book collectors and investors are always watching. A 6.0 CGC copy of All-American Comics #61 sold in January 2022 for $36,000. What will a 6.5 be worth in the future?

Overstreet Guide 2021 FN+ (6.5) value = $8,463.
