DESCRIPTION
Jack Kirby pencils/Alfredo Alcala inks; cover; 1983; image size 10" x 15"

Steve Gerber’s Destroyer Duck, seen here on one of the best covers of the series, is striking a classic Kirby action pose while fleeing a massive explosion. Destroyer Duck was created by Gerber as a not-so-subtle dig at Marvel during the heat of his legal battle with the publisher over rights to Howard the Duck. Kirby graciously lent his considerable industry weight to the project to bring attention to Gerber’s case, while also producing some wonderful work on the series. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Kirby and Alcala.

Artists Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.

Alfredo Alcala was a Filipino comic book artist known for his illustration in "Alcala Komix Magazine" and also his 1963 creation "Voltar", which led him to more international popularity. In 1971 Alcala began to work for both DC and Marvel Comics on horror and fantasy titles. He was one of the artists on the licensed movie tie-in series Planet of the Apes. In the early 1980s he penciled the Star Wars newspaper strip and inked comic books such as Conan the Barbarian over John Buscema's pencils and inked Don Newton's pencil artwork in Batman.
