There was much flailing about and scattershot ideating in the writer’s rooms at comic publishers as they struggled to stay afloat as sales flagged, and many hard-working creators lost their jobs. The upside to all this trouble is the modern-day rediscovery of the hidden gems of the post-war era, the forgotten superhero comics that would soon give way to genre books until the onset of the Silver Age. The dramatic Schomburg cover that adorns All Winners #18 shows Cap, Torch, and Namor battling with a gang of common bank robbers is another masterwork by the wunderkind Schomburg. The small print runs and dwindling interest in cape books make these classics extremely rare, and the investment comic market is showing a lot of love for these special, once-shunned delights.
