Jaime Hernandez pencils and inks: 'Love and Rockets' complete 2 page story; 1983; image size 10" x 15" ea.From 1983s Love and Rockets #3 comes this complete, eponymously titled, two page story. An extraordinary example of a complete story from the earliest days of the groundbreaking title. Even at a very young age Jaime's writing was mature beyond his years, this short story tells the story of a woman who's love for the Super Heroine Atoma (the hero identity of series regular Penny Century) has driven her to thoughts of suicide, only to be saved at the last minute by the object of her affection, who appears in the final panel possibly having dreamed the whole thing, possibly a nod to the classic Little Nemo in Slumberland comics of Winsor McCay. The story captures the real world emotion and lives of everyday people that makes Hernandez's stories so universal and appealing to readers. Jaime's drawing captures the sadness and pathos perfectly, with stark, isolating blacks surrounding and almost overwhelming the narrator without sacrificing the clarity and beauty of the drawing. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed and dated by Hernandez.

Jaime is one half of Los Bros. Hernandez, creators of the alternative perennial Love and Rockets, going strong since 1981. Jaime's Locas stories follow Maggie and Hopey and their evolving lives in Los Angeles. His crisp drawing, influenced by classic DC and Archie styles has made him a favorite of both readers and other artists.
