Big SurDufus P. Ratchet aka Big Sur, member of The Flash's rogues gallery who made his first appearance in Flash #338. This is a wonderful illustration from DC's indispensable Who's Who index of characters, beautifully depicted by classic Flash artist Infantino. The images at the top of the page are inked on a vellum overlay, the pencils on the art board have been covered up with white paint, in the book they were printed in red. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition.

High School of Art & Design alum Carmine Infantino got his start in the industry working Timely, a precursor to Marvel Comics, where he would do spot work on anthology features, in his first work at DC he helped create Black Canary and began his long-running involvement with the Flash during his Golden Age era, as well as illustrating the original Green Lantern. After the post-war comic book slump Infantino collaborated with writer Robert Kanigher and editor Julius Schwartz to help bring back superheroes and launch the Silver Age by updating the Flash in the pages of Showcase, the reboot was a huge success and led to the superhero rebirth that has continued into the modern day, Infantino's ability to capture speed and movement on a page made his Flash believable and engaging. Carmine was promoted to Art Director and then Publisher at DC over the course of his illustrious career,
Klaus Janson is a German-born American comics artist, working regularly for Marvel Comics and DC Comics and sporadically for independent companies. While he is best known as an inker, Janson has frequently worked as a penciler and colorist. Janson began working for DC Comics in the early 1980s and inked Gene Colan's pencils on Detective Comics and Jemm, Son of Saturn. Janson was one of the artists on Superman #400 (Oct. 1984) and was one of the contributors to the DC Challenge limited series. His collaboration with Miller on Daredevil would soon be eclipsed by a second collaboration between them, on Batman: The Dark Knight Returns in 1986. Janson inked the early issues of The Sensational Spider-Man which had been written and penciled by Dan Jurgens. Janson's work as an inker and occasional penciler at Marvel Comics includes collaborations with John Romita Jr. on Wolverine, The Amazing Spider-Man and Black Panther.
