Starlin's 1st ever Superhero page!

Only two months before Stalin introduced Thanos to the world in Iron Man #55, he produced his first superhero work for Marvel in #53. Starlin only penciled three pages in the issue and this is the first, if only he knew then where his career would take him, a truly historic piece of art. In the page Iron Man is doing battle with the Black Lama, making his first appearance, and Raga, Son of Fire. This is a wonderful page with a spectacular first panel of Iron Man firing his repulsor rays at the Black Lama in the first panel. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Starlin.

Artists Information

After leaving the Navy as a photographer Jim Starlin began his career in comic books where he enjoyed success as both a writer and artist. Starlin credits legendary artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko as major influences to his illustration style which is apparent in his early works. For over 40 years hes been known for his space opera-esque stories where he created popular characters such as Thanos, Drax and Gamora. His most notable works include Iron Man Adam Warlock and the Infinity Gauntlet.

Vince Colletta is an American comic book artist/ art director who's best known for inking Jack Kirby's work during the Silver Age of comic books. Colletta began his career working on a host of 1950's romance and western comics before making the move to Marvel where he would ink some their earliest stories, including The Fantastic Four, Journey Into Mystery/Thor and Daredevil. He would go on to DC where he inked Kirby again on a host of Kirby's Fourth World titles in addition to work on Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and an almost 70 issue run on Wonder Woman.
