(Marvel still brought in the top-selling Fantastic Four on the cover as insurance.) The book remains one of the cornerstones of comic collecting--featuring the first appearance of J. Jonah Jameson as one of the most iconic supporting characters in the history of comics. The book is also notable for including The Chameleon as Spidey’s first supervillain. The shape-shifting spy has been one of the major missing figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is finally set to make his big-screen debut in this year’s Kraven the Hunter film.
Despite some Marvel chipping along the perimeter of this copy of ASM #1, this comic presents very well, the colors are strong and the action at the center of the iconic cover illustration is very clean and clear. Since Amazing Fantasy #15 prices have gone through the roof, collectors are turning to Spidey’s first self-titled issue in anticipation of a similar uptick in value, and this copy is pretty handsome for its grade, this is a surefire investment key of the Marvel Age, it cannot be stressed enough that any serious collector needs to have a copy of this important comic in their portfolio.
