This January 1933 issue of Weird Tales features great stories by writers such as Otis Adelbert Kline, Murray Leinster, and Seabury Quinn. The most important story by far though is Robert E. Howard's "The Scarlet Citadel". This story features the second appearance of Conan the Barbarian. Conan would go on to feature in countless stories in every possible medium even including things like movies, board games, and videogames. Conan is one of the most successful serialized characters of all time, and his second appearance is quite an achievement. His successful reappearances in Weird Tales and Robert E. Howard's wonderful imaginative prose is what created his long-lasting presence in popular culture.
Despite this, the cover story is not Howard's, but Kline's "Buccaneers of Venus". The cover, drawn by classic pulp artist J. Allen St. John features a fantasy hero attacking a man on a mythological horse-like beast. The hero's sword plunges into the alien's chest as he falls off his great steed. The strange Venusian architecture looms large in the background.
