Jack Davis pencils and inks; 'The Covey Rise' illustration; 1973; image size 12.5" x 16"Fabulous illustration by the legendary Davis, from Sports Afield, the longest running outdoor life magazine in America. Davis provided humorous illustrations for the magazine for a few years in the early 1970s. This illustration from the May 1973 issue, titled 'The Covey Rise' in it's accompanying caption, showing a hunter having a little trouble during a quail hunt, is a marvelous display of Davis' effortless drawing, a beautiful example showcasing the fine linework of one of the best pure draftsmen comics has ever seen. Every element of the drawing is expertly conceived, from the quails to the dogs; the chaotic nature of the illustration is contained by a clear definition of the action. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition, there is some discoloration from a previous framing that does not affect the artwork. Signed by Davis.
