Leo O'Mealia cvr/art; 2nd app. of Superman
Superman wasn't a sure thing. So uncertain were DC Comics (then National Periodicals) that the second issue in the Action series, prepared before the initial issue hit the stands, didn't even feature the Man of Steel on its cover. As a result, Action #2 is arguably even scarcer than the first, the number of copies on the CGC census are less than half that of the mighty Action #1. This comic, which was once considered a throwaway, worth only pocket change of the era, and intended to pass time for only a moment, has been preserved through the passage of many decades.
The historic second appearance of the Man of Steel is the main attraction for this classic Golden Age comic, but the amazing Leo O’Mailia cover art is a standout of the era as well. This incredibly hard-to-find comic is always a huge draw at auction, and this handsomely restored copy is sure to continue the tradition. With only 43 copies registered on the census, this is one of the highest-grade examples around with a scant six copies ranking higher. This is certain to be one of the sleeper hits of this Event Auction, an auction that is filled to the brim with amazing GA DC books that are sure to bring bidders to the fray en masse.
