Captain America Comics #3 features the second appearance of the Red Skull, and the first cover appearance of Cap's enduring nemesis. (In this case, of course, the Red Skull is a mere pawn of Johann Schmidt, who'll emerge from the shadows in Captain America #7.) This May, 1941 issue also boasts Stan Lee’s first published comics story, with the Timely Comics office boy scripting a text tale titled "Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge." Collectors are also getting the first “shield toss” where Cap’s shield is thrown with fierce accuracy.

Touting the classic Schomburg wartime cover that has come to define the Golden Age Timely comic, this restored copy of Captain America Comics #3 is quite a nice find for our summer Event Auction. Featuring a Red Skull cover and a Stan Lee text story in the interior, this is a popular key for First Avenger fans worldwide. The cover retains its visual appeal, with a bold palette of colors and a fairly clean perimeter, this should be a popular lot come auction time, with just under 120 copies on the census, any opportunity to snag this classic issue should not be overlooked.
