Silver Age begins here; origin and 1st app Flash (Barry Allen) & 1st app Iris West; Comic Book Impact rating of 10 (CBI)It is widely held that Showcase #4 didn't just introduce the modern version of the Flash -- the issue may have saved the entire comic book industry from impending collapse. Before Julius Schwartz re-designed the Fastest Man Alive, superheroes were an afterthought in post-war comic books. Showcase #4 made a strong impression on readers as the story resonated on multiple levels. Flash is now enjoying renewed popularity thanks to his recent film and TV success increasing demand for his first appearance. What price can you put on this book? A hero book which is a hero unto itself, acting as the savior for an entire wing of international pop culture. Who knows what may have become of comics if it were not for this special piece of inspiration. This Showcase #4 earned a 4.0 Universal Grade from CGC, bearing off-white to white pages. The classic Infantino and Kubert cover looks quite well-preserved here, with the reds, yellows, and oranges adorning the Silver Age Flash who seems to jump right off the page. The cover copy, including the title, logo, and CCA stamp, all appear impressively sharp. While there are some telltale signs of this important key’s vintage around the edges of the copy, the overall impact of this issue remains intact. The historic significance of this key cannot be denied, and as such, is always a huge draw at auction.
Overstreet Guide 2022 VG (4.0) value = $15,600.
